ASA 101 - Basic Keelboat Sailing

Event Information

For the last 40 years, there has been a curious hole in the ASA curriculum, with ASA 101 Basic Keelboat leading directly into ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising. This spring, we will start teaching an exciting new course, ASA 102 Keelboat 2.

This course is for any sailor interested in building their core sailing skills. This includes becoming more proficient at boat handling, sail trim, and close-quarter maneuvering. It also focuses on improving individual helming and crewing skills and the teamwork involved in making a sailboat perform more efficiently, safely, and comfortably.

This certification will provide sailors with structured time on the water to develop sailing skills that will make them more confident and capable. We encourage all levels of sailors (even ASA 106 grads) to take ASA 102: Keelboat 2. There are parts of this course that will help even advanced sailors improve their sail trim and handling.
