This 4-day LIVEABOARD course provides the skills needed to charter a boat in the most popular sailing destinations throughout the world. The ASA Bareboat Chartering Certification can be endorsed to an International Certificate of Competence for a small fee, which is recognized throughout Europe.
This course builds on the ASA 103 course, which is a prerequisite, and provides the essential skills you'll need to safely command a boat of up to 50ft, in daylight hours, along coastal waters.
Structure
Each course provides 60 hours intensive instruction over 4 days living aboard a 40+ ft cruising sailboat. You begin by planning your passage, followed by a visit to the Store to provision the boat for the four days and three nights. Meals are a mixture of eating on board and dinghying to restaurants ashore, based on the students preferences, but we recommend cooking on board at least one night to get used to the equipment (and lifestyle).
There will typically be 3 or 4 students per course, so plenty of individual tuition as well as time as Skipper and the course wraps up with a 100-question multiple choice test.
We offer this as a combination liveaboard course in the US Virgin Islands.
Topics
Passage planning and preparation, sail plans for different weather conditions, safety, navigation, use of a VHF Radio, handling emergencies, boat systems and troubleshooting, basic first aid, crossing international borders, advanced mooring/docking/anchoring techniques, weather, tides, use and towing of a dinghy, and much more.
